Ford has formulated a new plan to speed up customer turnaround and vehicle shipments to dealers due to the continuing global chip shortage. The basic structure of the idea, which is still in the works, would be to ship unfinished vehicles to dealerships. Special training and materials for service technicians will be provided to those willing to accept the vehicles. Each installation only takes one hour for each car, minimizing labor and cost.
The proposal, according to Ford, would allow more vehicles to be conveniently finished and sold at Ford dealers across the country. This will also give Ford a solution to their overflowing lots of unfinished vehicles, which have led them to start storing F-150 trucks near the Detroit Metro Airport.
