According to Reuters, the Ford Hermosillo Assembly Plant and other Ford plants were forced to close due to an unspecified material shortage. Likely, meaning semiconductor chips, which have been sparse since the start of the pandemic. These closures could cause delays for the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Maverick. The chip shortage has also affected Europe’s Ford Fiesta production. In Germany, the Ford Cologne Assembly Plant is beginning a one-month shutdown, with the potential to extend into November if conditions do not improve.

Taking into account that the 2022 Ford Maverick was just introduced to regular production a few weeks ago as the first batch arrived at Ford dealers in September. Ford must have a steady supply of materials to meet the needs of potential buyers and dealers as demand increases.
