According to Automotive News, advisers at AlixPartners projects predict that automakers could lose around $110 billion and a total of 3.9 million units of manufacturing in 2021 because of the global chip shortage. This number is double the prediction provided in January, in which automotive producers stood to lose $61 billion from the deficit. While automakers deal with increased demand for vehicles during a global chip shortage, Ford CEO Jim Farley is focused on finding a solution as they prepare for up to a $2 billion loss if the issue isn’t solved by the end of Q2.
