Last May, Ford revealed that it had created a heated software enhancement that essentially transforms the Ford Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility into an oven. The heat is high enough to kill any remaining viruses such as COVID-19. This new feature was introduced on all 2013-2019 Police Interceptor Utility models.
The 2022 Ford Police Interceptor Utility heated sanitation system uses the vehicle’s climate control and powertrain to heat the interior beyond 133°F for 15 minutes. This is enough time to disinfect the interior and kill the COVID-19 virus. This technology is just one of many innovations from Ford’s Police Interceptor line, which has helped it remain the number one seller of police cars since 2014. Some might question how Ford will continue to keep up with the demand for vehicles as the company still faces a semiconductor chip shortage.
